A reminder to beginning students, the Wednesday evening class for you will be from 6:30 to 7:30 - with warm ups from 6 - 6:30. We will keep this time until further notice.
There will be no classes on Wednesday, December 21, or Saturday, December 24. Please enjoy your holiday, however you plan to celebrate.
Do return Wednesday, December 28, at the regular time. Saturday, December 31, we will have a somewhat shortened day. All who normally come at 11 a.m. should plan to arrive at 10 a.m.
Our regular schedule will resume January 4th.
The seminars taught by Grandmaster Wong were:
Five Animal Play Chi Kung - This was a really fun seminar; we laughed a lot but it was unexpectedly tiring. We worked much harder than I thought we would.
Five Element Broadsword - This seminar turned out to be quite challenging. We will need to do some hard work to make this form our own. I think we're up to the challenge; it will take hard work and practice.
Training and Applications for the Tai Chi 40 Form - As always, no seminar schedule would be complete without a time for Form work. Grandmaster worked us hard in this seminar. His practical insights and form corrections show us again that small changes have a huge impact on our practice and application.
I am proud and pleased to announce that all those who tested for their next fringe level with Grandmaster have passed. Congratulations to Nikki, Tom, Kathy, Chris and Michael.
The students of Chinatown Tai Chi Center are extremely proud that our Sifu has been awarded her Black Fringe Level. Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong performed the discipleship ceremony with many of the students as witnesses.
Day in the Park - Saturday, August 20, 12-3 p.m.
Chinatown Tai Chi Center will be demonstrating during Lauderdale's Day in the Park.
No classes, Wednesday, August 24. Due to circumstances beyond our control, there are no classes this evening. Plan to join us the following Saturday as we resume our regularly scheduled classes on August 27.
I am working with some of the Advanced and Intermediate students to help them prepare for Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wong's visit on October 27th, 28th and 29th. Grandmaster will be testing students on Thursday, October 27th. If you have a desire to be included, please see me very soon about what you will need to do to get ready for testing.
Seminars with Grandmaster Wong are Friday evening on the 28th and Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon on the 29th. We will be taught a Five Animal Play Chi-kung (new) and the tai chi five element broadsword form (new) and Form work and applications for the third seminar.
To experience Grandmaster Doc-Fai Wongs's teaching is rare and delightful at the same time. Please consider making these seminars a part of your fall plans.
Do you know how you can remember where you were when a monumental event happened? Well, this happens for me sometimes when practicing tai chi chuan. For instance, a particular posture might have really clicked for me in a certain place or time. I can remember being in San Francisco and Grandmaster Wong would be explaining a move or teaching me the next few postures. Now when I practice, I go back to where I was when I was taught those movements or forms. Memory is a great thing - you learn something for the first time only once but if you learn it well, it stays with you forever.
Performing the tai chi forms should be fun and it should definitely be beneficial. Patience and Practice make Perfect - this is a sign in Grandmaster Wong's school for all to see.
Invite a friend to come to a tai chi class class with you; help someone else to find the joy of learning about the rewards the ancient art has to offer.
I challenge each of you to pick one form to practice and improve. I also challenge you to ask questions and never stop learning something new.

We still need volunteers to open class on Wednesday evenings from 6 to about 6:15 p.m. Contact Sifu if you are interested. Your willingness is appreciated.
